The original slide was kept since it was numbered to the pistol. Jim sourced and installed a correct military issue (narrow width sear - not commercial) firing pin.
Second, the slide lock (in the upper portion of the trigger guard) had worn the slide's engagement detent so that the slide lock lever could not engage properly to hold the slide open.
